Hi
Last December, I made the decision to transition. It was going ok for the first couple of months, but now I am finding it a lot harder as I have more regrowth. And I am starting to really worry as I am starting to experience quite a bit of breakage.

What I have been doing is plaiting my hair in big plaits after I wash it, and then tying it back in the plaits, and then redoing the plaits every couple of days. I only comb my natural regrowth when I have conditioner it in (in the showers), although I do comb the relaxed ends more regularly (as they tangle easily)

I went to the hairdressers, the other day to have cornrows put in, but she wasn't very helpful. She seemed to struggle with the two different textures when putting it into cornrows, and couldn't really offer me much advice. In fact, I think she may have done more damage to my hair as she was dragging a rat tail comb through my hair.

The first bit of advice, I would like is hair styles. This problem is temporarly solved by me having cornrows. But when I take them out. I am not very keen on going back to the hairdressers as I just found the whole experience discouraging. Also, I am going back to university soon, so need something that is easy to do/maintain. I have a real problem with hair getting tangled so anything I can do to minimise that would be great. My hair is just about long enough for a ponytail/bun (just below chin). Is it easy to do cornrows on oneself?

The second bit of advice, I need is products. I need to find a good conditioner and moisturiser as my hair is breaking (it is mainly due to lack of moisture as it is quite inflexible). Unfortunately, I live in the UK so many of the products recommended just are not available here. I have been experimenting with different products, but most of them just leave a film of product/grease on my hair, but does not really moisturise my hair. I am not really sure what ingredients to be looking for.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Hi. Welcome to the board.

There is a wealth of information on the board.

Your profile does not say where you are located. In my area there are a lot of really good natural hair care salons. Sadly, it is trial and error when you visit some of them.

I do my hair myself. I've transitioned and I've BC'd.

I do my own cornrows.

Good luck.

This is one of the BEST link pages I've ever seen.
